Bubble with your people

Put things down for yourself first, then plan them with the people they involve: your flatmates, your family, the friends you’re going away with. An early version, for people we’ve invited.

Open Bubbles

What Bubbles is

  • Your journal, firstWrite down, paste or snap anything the moment it comes up. There’s nothing to sort first, and it stays private to you.
  • A Bubble for each planWhen something involves other people, start a Bubble around it: a trip, the flat, a birthday, looking after someone. Plans, questions, jobs and money live there together.
  • A link is the invitationNobody needs an account or a password. Send a Bubble’s invite link; whoever opens it asks to join with their name, and you decide who gets in. A few Bubbles shared before invitations began still use an open link, and anyone holding it comes straight in without asking.

Ways to start

A name is enough to start a Bubble. Or begin from one of these, which opens with a few useful things already in it. You can change or remove any of it.

Or start with just a name.

How to use it

  1. Put something downOn Today, type or paste anything. More ways to add has a photo, a voice note, where you are, a list, a reminder or a link. It’s saved straight away, and only you can see it.
  2. Start a BubbleOn Bubbles, write what you’re trying to make happen, like “Lisbon in May”, and tap Start.
  3. Invite someone and let them inIn the Bubble, tap Invite, add your name and tap Share invite link. When they open it and join, you’re asked whether to let them in. If Bubbles says “Whoever opens the link can join”, it is an open link: there is no asking, and anyone with it sees everything and can add to it. Only send the link to people you mean to invite.
  4. Add a job, a question or an expenseIn a shared Bubble, tap More ways to add. A job for someone asks a person to do something, and they say yes before it’s theirs. Ask the group shows what people prefer; someone still decides. An expense records what you spent and splits it.
  5. Settle upBubbles shows who owes whom, person to person. Pay in your own banking app, then tap Settle up and mark it as paid; the other person confirms they got it. No money moves through Bubbles.
  6. No signal? Carry onWhat you write is saved on your phone straight away. The others get it when you’re back online.
  7. Keep a recovery kitThere’s no account, so your things live on this device. Open You, then Privacy and your data, Get back in on a new phone and Set up recovery. Keep the kit and its recovery words somewhere safe: we can’t recreate them. On a new phone, use Restore from a kit on the same screen.

Put it on your phone

Bubbles runs in your browser, so there’s nothing to download from a store. Add it to your home screen and it opens like any other app.

iPhone and iPad
Open Bubbles in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
Android
Open Bubbles in Chrome, tap the ⋮ menu, then Install app (on some phones, Add to Home screen).
Computer
Open Bubbles in Chrome or Edge and choose the install icon at the end of the address bar.

An Android app on Google Play is on its way. There’s no App Store version yet.
