Accessibility
What we hold ourselves to, and where we fall short.
What we aim for
WCAG 2.1 AA as a minimum, plus: full keyboard use, a focus ring you can always see, calm announcements when things update, less motion when your device asks for it, text up to 200% with nothing cut off, real labels, tap targets of at least 44×44, and a written version of anything a map shows.
What we test
We test every release for:
- Readable contrast. 4.5:1 for text and 3:1 for everything else.
- Tap targets of at least 44×44, on a phone either way up, in sheets and dialogs too.
- Forced colours. It still works when your system replaces every colour.
- 200% text at 320 pixels wide, with no sideways scrolling.
- Keyboard use, with a focus ring that stays visible.
- No styles at all. With every stylesheet removed, each page still makes sense and reads in order.
- 120 combinations of access settings, tested through whole journeys.
Where we fall short
- Not yet tested with Safari and VoiceOver.
- Not yet tested on real devices.
- One trip screen reads out a different name than it shows.
